Come and Play: Folk Music! (November 2024)

Saffron Centre for Young Musicians welcomes Hazel Askew to lead our folk afternoon.

This event is suitable for everyone, regardless of previous experience of playing folk music. Musicians in Years 7 to 13 welcome.

Jazz Summer Course

SCYM’s Jazz course is back !

This hugely popular course led by Gareth Lumbers and Charlie Bates is for students grade 4+ and will suit both a beginner jazz player through to the advanced.

Three days, 27-29 August from 930 – 330pm, in the music department of SWCHS.

Fee: £150

Sunday afternoon

The weather was warm, the audience was large and the SCYMs brass band played, at the Fete de la Musique.

A truly wonderful afternoon was had by all.

This week, Saturday 29 June, will be the final concert in our series this half term.

We are delighted to have musicians performing on violin, piano and marimba.

Performances start at 1230pm in Room M1. Do hope you are able to come and listen.

Fete de la Musique

SCYMs Brass Band will be performing at the Fete de la Musique on Sunday 23 June.

The band will be based at King Edward VI Almshouses, Abbey Lane, Saffron Walden, CB10 1DE. The brass band will perform from 315pm to 345pm – do come along to listen and there will be refreshments available to buy, courtesy of Scott’s Coffee and Cakes, and Steve’s Ice Creams. There is plenty of room to sit and enjoy the music, so do bring a picnic blanket or camping chair!
